The BEI collection of indigenous stools includes more than 600 pieces from people from different regions: Upper and Lower Xingu, South Amazon, North of Pará, Guyanas and Northwest of Amazon. Stools combine functionality and beauty; they are wood-carved after animals found in Brazilian forests, or geometric-shaped and decorated with notches or natural pigment designs. More than just utilitarian objects, the stools help to keep alive an important symbolic dimension, representing the myths of the communities that originated them.
