After being
shown in São Paulo, at the Japanese Pavilion at Ibirapuera Park, and then in
Tokyo, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, the Brazilian Indigenous Stools exhibition will
be displayed at the Museu de Arte Indígena (Indigenous Art Museum, or MAI, in
the Portuguese acronym) in Curitiba, Paraná, starting on November 13th.
Thirty-eight pieces and a documentary about the production process of the
stools, with the artists’ statements, will be presented at the first private
museum in Brazil working exclusively with indigenous peoples’ artistic
production and which has the biggest collection on the topic.
The curatorship
and the exhibition layout of the show, signed by Ana Itália Paraná Mariano and
Ana Silvia Paraná Mariano Kerim, reveal the creative power and the aesthetic
sophistication of native Brazilian people.
